Perseverance In The Waiting

“Celebrate her birthday big this year.”

Those were the words from the head neurosurgeon at one of the nation’s leading cancer hospitals spoken to my parents after I’d been asked to leave the room. And as I approached my eleventh birthday, he’d given me ten months to live.

My family and I fought his death sentence. We couldn’t believe his words to be true. Instead, we stood in faith trusting God that the journey to remove the tumor in my brain would soon come to an end.

But if the truth be told, it was just the beginning.

Over the next six years, I was operated on four times — poked and prodded, stitched and stapled — hopeful to hear promising news. But the reports were only worsening. The tumor was only growing. The cancer was still prominent. And most glaring, I was limboing a tight rope fighting to trust God amidst the lack of progress I was seeing in my life. All I could do was wait. Patiently, wait…. and wait…. and wait even longer.

Waiting for God to move on our behalf is a lonely and weary spot to be in. For me, the uncertainty of when God will answer my prayers terrifies me the most.

But here’s what I didn’t know then that I want to share with you now: perseverance is produced when progress isn’t present.

Have you ever been at a place in your life where you are required to wait on the Lord for an answer?

Maybe a child you are believing for.

Or a broken relationship that you hoped would be healed by now.

Perhaps, a breakthrough in that place that has held you in bondage.

Why is it so hard to continue to trust the Lord when we do not see progress in the middle of our trials?
Because we are humans, we are prone to take matters into our own hands. We tend to see a resolution based on our own understanding of the immediate reality right in front of us. And we give up.

Living in a world of immediate results, our self-satisfying society cannot fathom the concept of waiting. But in God’s economy, waiting is never wasted. Instead, it is intended to strengthen us as we become more like Christ. God uses waiting. It is part of our christian journey. He uses it to teach us how to daily trust in Him. He uses it to prepare us for an even bigger purpose He has ahead of us. When the opportunity arises to continue to believe even when signs of progress are unseen, the Lord is inviting us to persevere based on His word instead of what we see.

I used to believe perseverance was endurance. Boy, was I wrong! While endurance means tolerating or accepting the obstacles in our lives, perseverance is very different. It means to press on with the certainty that it WILL happen.
Perseverance is moving forward and growing with Christ, despite the difficulty or delay. Perseverance is walking in the assurance that our Lord has already won the battle. And waiting is the soil where perseverance is grown.

If you are in a place today where your prayers have been unanswered, I challenge you to keep on believing God and His promises. Don’t give up! The perseverance being perfected in your challenging days of waiting will soon be the fuel that lights the way to God’s faithfulness in your trials. God has a plan over your life and will use your season of waiting when you offer it to him!

Wait and see, the Lord is good!

Finding Purpose in Every Day

By: Tiffany Smiling

Have you ever found yourself running through the motions, hopping from one place to the next, busy yet unfulfilled, wondering if you are even making progress toward where you hope to be headed? …. Or, is it just me? You know, that feeling of, “what am I doing with my life?  There has to be something more, something greater, something more significant to live for.”

In these moments of looking for purpose in our day to day lives, we can find ourself easily forgetting that God has a plan for our lives. He has a plan, a mission, a purpose ahead of us. He has an assignment that you were uniquely created to fulfill. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us how good the plan is:

“For I know the plan I have for you” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.”

You see, God never intended for us to make our own plans for our life and expect Him to bless them. Instead, He reminds us that He has an already blessed plan and path ahead of us, we just need to seek Him to discover it. I know that if you could only see what it looks like to discover and live in the plan God has ahead of you, it would send chills down your spine, full of excitement knowing what you were created to conquer, but the mystery of the plan, “not knowing” what is ahead, seems to overtake our thought life and leave us at a state of confusion instead of excitement. The truth is, the mystery of the plan remains the most beautiful part of the plan, because it requires us to trust and seek the Lord. Trusting and seeking is exactly where he wants you to be.

You are significant to God. Can we take a second and internalize how significant you are? The God of the universe thinks so highly of you, His daughter, that He has already gone before you with an assignment that you were designed to complete. An assignment that would prosper you and not harm you. An assignment full of hope.  An assignment that ultimately brings him glory. An assignment that He wants you to discover, and we want to walk alongside you to help you discover it!

This January we want to help lay down those feelings of unfulfillment by discovering your life mission & purpose through our newest study, The Warrior Princess.  The 4 week study on “Living your life on a mission” will empower you in finding the greater purpose to pursue with your life, destroying the lies of  inadequacies in your heart, and mapping out the path ahead aligning your passions with the heart of Christ.

We invite you to join our community of woman studying the word of God and growing together through the Warrior Princess bible study.

Guard Your Heart, For it brings Life

by: Kristi Triplett

Your Heart. It’s Precious, Darling.

In 2015, in Los Angeles at the Yellow Conference, Eryn Eddy, founder of So Worth Loving, said this statement that has followed me for over a year, “If you work harder on your job than yourself, you will lose yourself.”

Wow. Those words went straight to the heart. As I meditated on those words, went back to my roomies AirBnB, and talked the night away, I began to realize that I was losing myself in my job/what people said about me/ and everything else I was trying to do in my life. This busy body, people pleaser took a hit from that bold statement…but I tell you, it was life changing. It helped me take a step back, start evaluating my life, and discovered if I was truly protecting myself and looking after myself more than what I was running around doing each day for other people.

As a mental health professional, I am wired to look after people more than myself. Even from something as simple as my writing, to my clients, to traveling abroad and working with young adults. This life is hard work, ladies, and as dreamers, shakers, and doers, we are all wired to serve the greater good with our unique talents and skills. My question to you is this – How much importance are you putting on your own health, relationships, and dreams?

We are called to protect our hearts and it is so critical that our hearts are healthy.”Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 NIV

A healthy heart follows a healthy path that leads to a healthy life.

When we begin to lose ourself in how others perceive us, how “successful” we are, or how put together we are, we usually find that we are giving out too much of our hearts or maybe too haphazardly. We jump into saying “yes” way too much, we worry about getting that perfect job, we listen to the words way too strongly of people who are not, as I call them, “safe people”, who make us question our own values and pursuance of our dreams. Can you see how this process can begin? I am one to raise my hand first and say, “Yes. Many times I worry too much, I overload my schedule, I let people in my life who aren’t building me up.” So I ask you this, darling, what is the condition of your heart?

Let us return to our purest selves. Let’s come to the present moment and ask ourselves where are our desires and passions coming from? How much time are you renewing your heart, shifting your focus on the One who gave you the only YOU this earth will ever see. Let’s get excited! The most beautiful you is when you realize the worth you have, and you begin to walk in who you’ve been called to be with a peace beyond your own understanding. Our “now” is a gift each of us have been given even if our nows aren’t exactly where we thought they would be. What you are doing and dreaming about IS important. Don’t let the person next to you try and steal that. Care for your heart because out of it flows life, and watch as your journey blooms because you have found yourself again.
